Migraine Prevention

A Message From Dr. Steinberg Regarding Headache Prevention:

Did you know that I have been migraine headache free since 1998 (!) after suffering with a variety of uncomfortable and frightening symptoms from childhood until I was 20 and in my THIRD YEAR AT HOPKINS?! Ugh, I experienced visual symptoms, headaches, facial pain and dizziness which made life so difficult. This caused me to miss out on a lot fun. However, I felt completely reborn once I became symptom free and have had a lot of fun since!

I remain symptom free because of a unique migraine headache prevention protocol that I created, called The Headache Preventive Lifestyle, which uses simple, evidence-based techniques that I learned from the world's best mentors (who are now all retired or have passed away, sadly) at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and The Rusk Institute.

I then went on to complete my education and internships and starting my thrilling psychology practice. What happened next was that over the years, I came across many patients in my private practice who suffered terribly in the way that I did for so many years. I began to teach them the techniques necessary to reduce the frequency, intensity, and duration of their own headaches that no neurologist or other headache specialist seemed to know or be teaching, something I know like a second religion. Most of those patients are now completely symptom free. Because of my patients' successes and the great impact it had on their happiness and well-being, a sub-practice within my practice called The Center for Integrative Headache Prevention was born.

To this day, I still can't figure out why neurologists are excellent diagnosticians and such poor treaters of migraine headaches when it's really so simple. My guess is that they don't have the time to spend with patients to teach them what they really need to know. Or perhaps they just don't know because it's not taught in medical school (it isn't) or they haven't gone through it themselves, like I have. Whatever the reason, so many people unnecessarily live in the downward spiral of migraine despair. It doesn't have to be this way!!

A primary headache such as a "tension headache," "migraine headache," "menstrual headache," "vestibular headache," "cluster headache," or "stress headache" is defined as one that is not caused by any sinister medical condition or disease such as a brain tumor or aneursym. All types of primary headaches can be prevented with the right know-how. If you or someone you know suffers from headaches, I encourage you to ask me about how living The Headache Preventive Lifestyle could be a tremendous help and lifesaver!
